We are the NEWLANDERS. We belive in a better internet. An old internet. An internet that has once been and has now ceased to be. The internet used to be so much. It used to be so full of prospects. The internet is a society. The internet is a civilisation. The internet belonged to the people. The internet does not belong to the people anymore.
We, as the NEWLAND Society, have made it our mission to advocate for the internet to go back to its roots. The internet does not need reform, the internet does not need flat design. The internet, at the core of its idea, was perfect. It was able to perfectly encapsulate what it would mean to be connected. Humans were humans were users were profiles were accounts. Today we don’t know who is who. Who curated this? It certainly wasn’t us. We advocate for an Internet that is freed from algorithms, where the users ARE able to control their behavior and their perceived content on the web, like they were able to for so long.
We, as the NEWLAND Society, denounce the pagan entities of algorithm, big data, neural networks, Internet of Things, we believe and listen to only one being, our founder and father TIM BERNERS-LEE. As he is the one who connected us. He is the creator of this space that once was so beautiful and rich, full of hope and perspectives. He left us a world of endless possibilites. This world was hijacked from thugs and corporations of vile and commercial nature.
It is our mission, through digital gospel and information, to convert and edjucate users and non-users alike, to accompany us on the journey back to what the internet once was and declare it ours. The more people who follow, the closer we will get to the paradise we call NEWLAND.
FREED OF THE CHAINS OF ALGORITHMIC SUPRESSION
RELEASED FROM THE CLASPS OF DATA SURVEILLANCE
EXISTING IN A DECENTRALISED SOCIETY OF USERS
WE DECLARE THE INTERNET A MUNICIPALITY
WE DECLARE THE INTERNET AN INDEPENDENT SPACE
WE DECLARE THE INTERNET AS CYBERSPACE
CYBERSPACE BELONGS TO ITS USERS, NOT TO COMPANIES
We ask the urgent questions:
Who do we want our leaders to be? Zuckerberg and Bezos? We say NO! Capitalism has ruined the internet, how did this magical place that brought us togehter, that made every single user experience the same space, see the same content and coexist in the beauty of the GLOBAL VILLAGE become this place of great microtargeted divide? It happened while we enjoyed and loved being together on a global scale. Collectiveness has always been a threat for the powerful, they strive to divide, they strive to control and that is exactly what is being done to us. They harvested the powers of technology to make us into little buying machines that are divided by the content they get shown. Instead of enjoying everything together, everyone sees something else, different images, different videos, different texts.
WHY CAN’T WE BE TOGETHER?
When the Internet was born it asked:
“What do you want from me?”
“We want everything”
So it gave them everything.
It gave them connectedness.
It gave them togetherness.
It gave them global collectivity.
Now the Internet asks:
“Was this really what you wanted?”
And they say:
Without knowing what it is exactly that they want.
If you are someone who is online and exist in the digital sphere of Cyberspace you are an official citizen of the global web. We here at the NEWLAND society believe in the togetherness of the web, a sense of belonging, a sense of heritage. Therefore we are issuing IDs to our members. This ID is a physical, haptic token of our dedication towards a better Cyberspace.
This ID card is a fictional document that entitles you to identify yourself as a global digital citizen. You can and should use it to identify yourself at our annual meeting.
WHAT DO WE WANT TO BECOME?
JUST TRY TO PICTURE WHERE ALL OF THIS ALGORITHMIC DICTATORSHIP IS LEADING.
YOU KNOW IT CAN NOT BE GOOD
LET US UNITE AND ADVOCATE FOR A CYBERSPACE THAT IS MANDATED BY US FOR US. BY US I DO NOT JUST MEAN THE NEWLAND SOCIETY, I MEAN EACH and every single user of cyberspace. in our past we will find:
a status quo that was great
a status quo that was beautiful
a status quo that was us
a status quo that was not them
a status quo that was humane
a status quo that did not try to divide
